Dr. Olinda Johnson has spent forty-five years moving between the bedside, the classroom, and the conference podium. She holds a PhD in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University, where her dissertation research on bereavement intervention for pregnancy loss was later published in the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic & Neonatal Nursing and named a runner-up for the 2016 Best of JOGNN Writing Award.
She serves as a Clinical Educator at Houston Methodist and has taught at Texas Woman’s University as an Assistant Professor and Adjunct Faculty since 1992. She holds AWHONN Instructor Trainer credentials for both Intermediate and Advanced Fetal Monitoring — a distinction held by a small fraction of AWHONN instructors nationally — and has delivered these courses through the Houston Area Collaborative Perinatal Program for nearly three decades.
Her current speaking work centers on three intertwined concerns: the clinical competence of perinatal nurses, the health of African American women, and the culture of nursing itself. She has delivered invited lectures at AWHONN national and state conferences, the National Black Nurses Association, the National Missionary Baptist Convention, the American Heart Association’s Go Red campaign, and more than a hundred hospital, church, and university programs across Texas and beyond.
Every program she delivers is built around a single standard: nurses leave with skills they can apply on their next shift. That results-driven approach — grounded in evidence, tied to learning objectives, and documented for CEU compliance — is why organizations invite her back.
